“Few things I like more than live radio, especially historic live radio,” said Too Slim after Riders hosted Ernest Tubb Record Shop's Midnite Jamboree last Saturday night. “What a night!”
Highlights included Woody Paul playing a fiddle given to him by Roy Acuff 50 years ago, newly restored, (the fiddle, not Roy, and certainly not Woody) and singing “Wabash Cannonball.” Then there was the young lady from The Dells, Wisconsin, Rebekah Rodwell, now attending Belmont University who got up and fiddled “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and testified as to how Riders influenced her years ago to pursue her dream of a life in music. And who can forget Jeff Taylor, subbing for Joey, essaying a languid and lovely “Twilight Time.” Add in Ranger Doug’s off-hand hilarity, and you get the picture.
“Next time can’t come too soon,” said Mr. Slim.
